Official Google Blog: Corporate solar is coming

Official Google Blog: Corporate solar is coming

Yet another way that Google is proving their "Do No Evil" slogan. This is a great thing, and more companies should follw their lead.

In a similar vein, check out the ambitious project undertaken by Verizon in Garden City, NY. ---> Fuel Cell Technology

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH | Bryce Zabel: Let's Get Small: Plutonian Edition

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH | Bryce Zabel: Let's Get Small: Plutonian Edition

This blog posting REALLY puts things into perspective.

I wonder how big the picture would have to be for Earth to become a one pixel image with Antares in the picture. I'm thinking something along the line of this

That's about all for now. Talk to you soon.

Google Library Project: Download the classics

Official Google Blog: Download the classics

All I can say is....It's about time! This is a worthy endeavor that should have been done years ago. Well, it's finally happened. I realize there was (still are, I guess) a lot of people up-in-arms about this, but in the end, this will be a good thing. Just like certain bands who encourage the sharing of their music online to build their fan base, this book sharing is going to allow a world of people to experience books they otherwise may never have had the chance to see. As an author, wouldn't you want your published works to be read by more people? Isn't that the real reason you became an author?

Anyway, be sure to check out Google Book Search, and maybe you will rediscover an old classic.

Official Google Blog: How to move Ramses II

Official Google Blog: How to move Ramses II

We've all seen people having houses moved, and there have even seen 200 year old trees dug up and moved, but they all pale in comparison now. This is REALLY cool.

In case you don't have Google Earth, you should try it out. It's pretty amazing. Get it for free here.

Revolutionary New Chip Arrives - Personal Technology - NewsFactor Network

Revolutionary New Chip Arrives - Personal Technology - NewsFactor Network

Not sure what to think about this...it sounds great, but maybe too great. Too good to be true. Magnetic field? Would this be easier to erase the data ala credit card magnetic strips? Sounds a little fishy to me. I have heard of Freescale, and although they are a up-and-coming company, why are they the first to do this? Isn't anyone else trying? Why haven't we heard of this before? And PC's that can boot-up instantly? I'll believe it when I see it.

Call me skeptical, but I think this is going to be another case of vaporware.

Tell me what you think.

a Venti WHAT!?!?!?

So I'm in Starbucks the other day, and I hear this woman in front of me order the following: "I'll have a venti, soy, non-fat, no-water, chai." Now I'll be honest, I have no idea what this means, but I can tell you one thing; it almost certainly is not worth the effort of ordering, making, or drinking the damn thing. What the hell is a no-water chai? For those of you who don't know, 'chai' is a type of tea. Now the last time I checked making tea was a pretty simple task. 1. Boil water. 2. Add tea to cup (leaves or a bag). 3. Pour water into cup. So my question is, how the hell do you make tea without water?!?! Maybe you just use the soy milk this woman requested, but if that's the case, I'd be willing to argue that it's no longer tea, but something else. I'm not exactly sure what, but it's definitely not tea.

Which leads me to the point of my rant. I realize that people like to have choices, but c'mon people, do we really need 55,000+ different types of coffee and tea drinks at a Starbucks? (This is NOT an exaggerated number. This is according to the Starbucks company themselves.) I have NOTHING against Starbucks at all, quite to the contrary, I think they are a great company. For a GREAT story about Starbucks, click HERE. But when it comes to choices, enough is enough. Would this woman's day have been any different if she had a Venti Chai Tea? Nothing fancy, just tea and water, the way it was meant to be consumed?

Anyway, that's what I was thinking about today, so I thought I'd share. Feel free to leave me any comments.

FOXNews.com - Rep. Kennedy: 'I Never Asked for Any Preferential Treatment' - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum

FOXNews.com - Rep. Kennedy: 'I Never Asked for Any Preferential Treatment' - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum

Once again a Kennedy is in the news, and it's not good press. 2:45am? Headed to a vote? Who is he kidding? Will anything happen to Patrick Kennedy because of this? We should all stand up and DEMAND something occur. A field sobriety test wasn't even given. And in case you forgot, this in the District which has arrested people for having one drink (Read this: Woman arrested in DC for one drink). Ironically enough, this story originally appeared in the Washington Post, but is no longer available on their website, even if you search for the original author (Bridgid Schulte), or the original title of the article (Single glass of wine immerses D.C. driver in legal battle.)

Would the same leniency been given had he actually hit the police cruiser, or god forbid actually hurt a pedestrian? This is outrageous, and we should not allow this type of preferential treatment to continue.

Just my two cents. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Reading Material

I recently just finished "The Little Book That Beats the Market" by Joel Greenblatt. He has a 'magic formula' (it's not really magic), and no matter what you read about this book, it works. I've only been following this plan for a few weeks now, and with a very small amount of money, but I can already see some positive results. Anyone that says Joel's methods don't work might have an agenda.....be suspect. If there is any doubt as to Mr. Greenblatt's altruistic motives.....read this story...New York Metro.

The book provides a simple method to investing in the stock market, and can provide higher returns than you will ever receive through a mutual fund. As with any investment, nothing can be guaranteed, but the historical results of Joel's methods prove that this works. Give it a try, there is very little to lose. Also, don't forget to buy the book. It's a quick read, and it's less than $12.00 at Amazon.

Bush Threatens to Veto Any Bill to Stop Port Takeover - New York Times

So this was posted to another one of my blogs, and I decided it made more sense to put it here. If you are just reading this for the first time, it is dated, but still something that I feel strongly about. This was something that should never have happened.

Bush Threatens to Veto Any Bill to Stop Port Takeover - New York Times

So President Bush wants to move forward with an already approved sale of a port company to an Arab ally? Is this really a problem? Is this racism disguised as patriotism? What the hell is wrong with these people? Hillary Clinton should keep her mouth shut. As should everyone else who is voicing an opinion against this sale. The U.A.E. is an ALLY! Don’t you people get it? The current owner of these ports is also a foreign country, London-based P&O Port to be specific. In terms of a terrorist threat, the bombings that occurred in London last year were carried out by British citizens. I don’t hear anyone saying that we shouldn’t allow British companies to own and operate any ports in the US. The US economy is a global economy, and to prevent a foreign country from owning a company in the US doesn’t make sense. Especially when the country in question is not only a friend of ours (there aren’t many left in the Middle East), but one that has gone through the mandated process of proving themselves trustworthy. No less than five government agencies reviewed and approved the sale. This includes the Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security. This should be a non-issue, it shouldn’t even be news. Of the top 25 ports worldwide, 24 are owned by non-US companies. Why should these six be any different? In the end I hope that Bill Frist and his cohorts (both Republican and Democrat) come to their senses, and realize this might be the first step in building relations with the Middle East.

What I'm Reading

I just finished "Making a Good Brain Great" by Daniel G. Amen. I'm not really sure where to start. This book has changed my life. I feel like I should send a thank you note to Dr. Amen. The overall idea behind this book is exactly what the title says, make your good brain better. Dr. Amen has proven, over years of study that this is possible. Not only possible, but advisable. If you make your brain better, your quality of life will be better. Not giving anything away, there is a 15 days to a better brain section at the end of the book, that I have yet to implement, but it's on my list of things to do.

Add to this plan Dr. Amen's very easy to read writing style, his expressive story-telling, his passion for the brain, and the result is a wonderful book that I recommend to everyone I talk to.

You can check out the book at Amazon here.

You can also check out Dr. Amen's website for his clinics here.

Take the time to read this book, you won't regret it.

American Inventor?

So my latest (and in this case first) rant is about stickers. I know, it sounds a little strange, but let me explain. I can be very opinionated about certain things, and one of those things happens to be a combination of laziness and stupidity. You might be wondering what this has to do with stickers, well I'll tell you. I was eating a plum this evening and tried to remove the sticker that is on each and every piece of fruit you buy these days (maybe I need to shop somewhere other than Acme). Anyway, the real problem I have is with the glue that is used to affix the sticker to the fruit. Do they want me to eat this piece of paper? I think someone must, because otherwise it would come off easier. Let's face it, it CAN'T be because there is no alternative, right? I mean there has to be a better glue out there, right? And it's not just fruit, it's picture frames too. I can't tell you when the last time I bought a picture frame that didn't require me to remove the sticker with WD40. What is going on here? We build computer circuits with nano-technology (Click here for proof), we put men on the moon, and we clone animals, but no one has figured out a way to make a glue that is a little more sticky than your average Post-It note, but not quite as sticky as say Krazy-Glue? I think someone on American Inventor should come up with this solution. It will make my life much easier. And really, when you think about it, that's the goal, right?

My Two Cents

Here's the deal......I read a lot of different news stories on the web, and sometimes i like what I read, and other times I become very frustrated. I wanted to start this blog as a way for me to vent about news stories that I read. I will provide links to each of the stories (isn't Google great?), and you can either agree or disagree with my opinions, but whatever you decide, leave a comment. If it catches my attention, maybe I will write back.

That's it, thanks for checking out my blog. Check back soon for updates.
